Tom is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology at McGill University. His proposed thesis focuses on indigenous systems of resource governance, land rights and cultural-ritual oversight within the East African context.

He holds an MA in Strategic Studies from the University of Leeds, and an MSc in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health from the University of Edinburgh. At Edinburgh his research examined the political ecology of East Africa’s rangelands, with a specific interest in possibilities for genuinely inclusive conservation.

Tom’s past professional experience covers the nexus of foreign policy, strategic communications and program management, and outside of work he enjoys running, hiking, paddling and birdwatching.
